How We Build Software at Performant

Software that performs. It is in the name. We own our code, choose the right languages for each problem, and partner with proven infrastructure. Here is what that means in practice.

Do the hard work upfront

Infrastructure, architecture, and security are hard problems. We handle them so our users do not have to think about them. When you open Venova or any Performant product, the complexity behind it should be invisible. Fast load times, reliable sync, and strong encryption come from deliberate engineering decisions, not from bolting solutions on after the fact.

This extends to how we build. We own our code. Where other companies assemble products from dozens of third-party services stitched together, we write the core ourselves. That costs more upfront but pays back in reliability, performance, and the ability to fix problems at the source rather than filing a ticket with a vendor.

Transparency in everything

We are open about pricing, what is included, and how our products work. There are no hidden fees. The free tier is clearly defined: the Venova desktop app with offline mode, free forever. The paid tiers add cloud sync and web access; we do not withhold basic features to force an upgrade.

The same applies to how we handle data. Our privacy policy specifies exactly which sub-processors touch your information, what our encryption covers and what it does not, and what happens when you close your account. If something changes, we update the policy before the change ships.

Right tool for the job

Performant's stack is chosen for the problem, not the trend. Our web applications run on SvelteKit and Cloudflare Workers, an edge-first architecture that puts code close to users across 300+ global locations. Our backend API is .NET (ASP.NET Core) because it is genuinely fast and type-safe for the business logic it handles. Desktop apps use Tauri because it produces native binaries with a small install size and low memory footprint.

We do not adopt technologies because they are popular. We adopt them because they are the right fit for what we are building, and we stay with them because stability matters more than novelty.

Build for the long term

Zero forced migrations. Zero breaking changes. When you build your workflow around a Performant product, it should keep working. We ship updates that improve what you have, not updates that force you to relearn what you already know.

Data portability is part of this commitment. You can export your data as CSV or JSON at any time. Your data is yours. We do not hold it hostage to keep you subscribed. Open standards mean your records are useful outside our products, not locked into a proprietary format that only works with us.

Built on faith

Performant was built on the belief that business is an extension of faith. Our foundation is unapologetically Christian, and that shapes how we treat people, whether customers, partners, or each other. Integrity is not a value we aspire to; it is a baseline we operate from.

While our foundation is Christian, we serve clients of all backgrounds with the same standard of excellence. Our commitments on how we build, how we price, and how we handle your data apply equally to everyone.
