Setting up currencies

Venova ships with 57 currencies. Set your home currency in Settings. That is the one your reports and totals roll up into. You can add a second currency alongside it, which is the setup for living abroad, earning in one currency and spending in another, or holding a foreign account.

Each account can have its own currency, and any transaction can be logged in either currency. Consolidated reporting is built around one home currency plus one second currency, so it is not a general many-currency ledger.

Exchange rates

Venova does not fetch market rates. It builds a rate timeline from the exchanges you actually record. Those are cross-currency transfers, and transactions where you enter both sides. Each foreign balance is then valued at the rate that applied on the date being reported, so past entries stay accurate instead of being restated at today's rate.

If you have not recorded an exchange near a given date, Venova falls back to the default rate you set in Settings. You can also set the rate on any individual transaction when your actual rate differs, say at an airport exchange counter.
